Before

Hey, so – what kind of massage place is this?

There are really so many different kinds of massage, aren’t there? We are of the super-duper therapeutic bodywork breed. Learn more about who we are, what we’re all about, and what we offer.

I’m a bodywork newbie. What am I in for?
Welcome! On the morning of your appointment, stay hydrated. Stick with very light foods within an hour or two of your session. Since we don’t offer shower facilities, show up to your appointment fresh and clean (to the best of your ability). So that we have time to talk about your specific needs, injuries or concerns, please arrive a few minutes early for your first session. Together, we’ll assess the focus of the session. Then, we’ll leave the room and give you a few minutes to undress to your level of comfort and slip in beneath the sheets on the table. You will be appropriately draped at all times. And from time to time, we’ll be checking in with you on level of pressure and to see if your session is going swell.

Shoots! I need to cancel. Will I get charged?
To avoid being charged for the full amount of your session, please let us know 24 hours in adif you will be unable to make your scheduled appointment. If your appointment is booked the same day you call, please be sure that you can make it before you book, as we may ask you to pay for canceling if we turned down someone else for that time. This is done in fairness both to clients who would otherwise have wanted the appointment as well as the therapist, who is not paid if they do not perform the session.

Oops, I’m running late! Will I get my full session?
If you find yourself running late, give us a call as soon as you can to let us know. You’re guaranteed to receive whatever time is left in your appointment. Due to our schedule we may be unable to extend your session beyond your original appointment time. While we try not to be late, if we are, we give you the full time or charge you less.

During

I’m a bit shy. Is there a robe?
We don’t offer robes. Fear not, however! You will be appropriately draped at all times during your session. Once we’ve had a chance to chat about the focus of the session, we will leave you alone in the studio for a few minutes to disrobe to your level of comfort (yes, keep your underwear on if you are so inclined) and settle in on the massage table beneath the top sheet, belly down, face down in the face cradle.

Is breathing important during the session?
Good of you to ask. Hell yes! During the session, your only job is to actively seek relaxation. You’ll be encouraged to practice breathing gently and deeply to and from your belly to induce relaxation. You may want to visualize sending breath to the area of the body where work is being done, so as to help muscles, ligaments, tendons, and fascia unwind, open and release. Note: At times while face down, you may experience congestion due to the draining of sinuses and such. We offer tissue, camphorous remedies and magical pressure points that may help you breathe easy once again.

Something’s not quite right. Should I say something?
Uh, absolutely. This is your time to relax. We always appreciate your requests and feedback. While we may be the experts on bodywork, you are the expert on you. Everything from the music and volume to the angle of your face rest is adjustable. Your therapist will never be offended if you make a request to turn up the heat, add a blanket, or adjust the table, pressure or music during your session.

What if I prefer my session without draping?
While we absolutely respect your healthy body image, it is our policy to drape you properly at all times during your session.

After

Whoa. I am a space case. Am I OK?

It’s fairly normal to feel a bit dizzy or spacey after a massage. Your body may feel lighter. (Enjoy!) We’ll offer you a beverage, and leave you in the studio alone for a few minutes to reflect on how your body feels, stretch, and get dressed. When you’re ready, pop the door open and we’ll be there to chat briefly with you about post-session care specific to your needs.

Hydrate.
After the session, drink plenty of water to rehydrate and assist your newly recharged circulatory system in flushing out any cell waste released during the massage. Avoid strenuous activity, relax and allow your body to integrate the work. You may experience some soreness in the day or two after your session, especially if you don’t receive regular bodywork.

Soak. If you’re dealing with muscle inflammation, we strongly suggest a luxurious post-massage bath of epsom salts: high in magnesium to reduce inflammation; helps to boost seratonin levels. Uh – what’s not to love? (LINK TO STORE)

Rest. While you may be eager to rock your newly stretched and relaxed muscles at the gym or for a night out on the town, we suggest that you continue to give your muscles and your nervous system some down time.

What forms of payment are acceptable?
We accept payment in many of it’s popular flavours, be it cash, VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, or Paypal. You can prepay for any of your sessions by sending us payment via Paypal to mochimassage@gmail.com

Is it appropriate to tip or not tip?
Gratuities are always appreciated, but never expected.

Dur. I think I left something behind at the studio. What to do?!
It’s OK. Just shoot us a quick email, and we’ll make arrangements to get it back into your care as soon as we can.

I have a question about etiquette that isn’t covered in this FAQ.
Cool. Give us a call or shoot us an email, and your questions will be answered asap.
